Serious about Safety

As much as we’re obsessed with weight; we know the old adage rings true – Safety First. OVERFAST thu-axles have undergone years of research, development & testing. Throughout development one thing was paramount; there would be no compromise to safety. While some manufacturers have experimented with bonding aluminium threads to carbon thru-axle shafts, our patented technique relies on a mechanical interface between the carbon and alloy components. While we also use aerospace-grade adhesives to bond the two, the adhesive is just for added peace of mind. Even without the adhesive, our thru-axles have a tensile strength of 500kgf. With the adhesive the overall tensile strength of the thru axle is over 900kgf.

OVERFASTs testing includes the following:

  • Thru Axle Fatigue test with wheelset (EN Standard)
  • Thru Axle Impact test with wheelset (UCI Standard)
  • Maximum Torque Test (19Nm)
  • Maximum Tensile Strength Test (>950kgf)
  • X-Ray Inspection Test
  • Lateral Compression test. ( 100-200kg)
  • Carbon Cap Impact and Fatigue Resistance Test. (20j impact, 12Nm torque installation and disassembly for 200 cycles a 1 minute intervals.)
  • More than one year real-world testing. (WuBo, 80kg Taiwanese Sprinter)

Environmentally conscious design

We respect that one of the greatest aspects of the bicycle is how environmentally friendly it can be. However, we’re also aware that certain manufacturing techniques have the potential to cause harm to the environment. OVERFAST are also committed to environmetally aware production and packaging techniques. This includes their packaging that try to maximize recycled and recyclable materials.

Basic Care & Attention

While the OVERFAST thru-axles are durable for a weight-weenie part; they’re still an expensive piece of carbon fiber, and so you should use basic care and attention when using the thru-axles.

  • Use good quality hex wrenches when installing or uninstalling the thru-axles.
  • Make sure the head of the tool is inserted at least 15mm into the thru axle before tightening or untightening.
  • To avoid damage; use a torque wrench for installation. The recommended torque is 7-9Nm.

2024 Update

For 2024 the thru-axles have been updated to include a titanium insert for the hex wrench socket. This increases the durability of the thru-axle when installing and uninstalling. This updated added 1g but saw a huge increase in durability and usability.

Recieved within 10 days of postage. Superlight 35grams for my S-Works SL7 over standard thru axles at 6970grams. Had to buy a new 6MM socket for my torque wrench as Hex needs to be inserted by 15mm as per manufacturers instructions which is looong!
Not ridden them yet to see of there is any difference in feel, but these would pair well with the 50/60 CRW Wheels I have ordered.
Only time well tell in regards to longevity as I am bit wary of the loosening and tightening of these as the hex end is carbon so will have to take more care than usual.

Extremely light compare to my existing aluminum thru axles. Was initially at doubt if these will last and safe for use. Had been cycling with these for around 3 months without any issue. Also noticed that these alxes dampen the vibration on the road more than the alu axles too.

Come at 33gr for my sl8. No issue when riding them for three months, even with a lot of mount/dismount (always checking the tork).

Received these this week, very nicely made, finish is great. Came in at 31g for the pair (Canyon Ultimate 2023) stock DT Swiss are 71g for the pair, so a decent weight saving.

Axles are great when the company gets them correct after getting the wrong axles twice was told to take a video to see why they were not threading into the canyon frame when i actually sent in a picture showing the difference in pitch thread overfast did not get my order right almost six months of back and forth and instead of just honoring the return a video was requested which made no sense def not worth the price to save some weight on thru axles when the customer backing is not there lost me as a customer sadly!!!
