The most surprising bike of 2023. When I first saw the Sohtea, I was quick to dismiss it as a cheap Aethos knock-off. However, when building one up for a colleague, the first thing that surprised me was the quality. The finishing of the paintwork, the interior of the carbon, the cleanliness of the disc brake mounts… they put many bigger brands to shame. As did the included accessories. The bike I built for the colleague was about 2 sizes too small for me, but I took it for a shake-down ride anyway. I wanted to find a hill to bed-in the brakes, so I started a local climb. I was immediately impressed. We’d built the bike up on a budget, and it was still super-light. But not only that, the power transfer of the rear triangle was very direct. With a comical amount of seat post sticking out (being two sizes too small) it also rode super comfortably. The descent was also surprising. Usually XXS frames are an after-thought and thus the geometry (and handling) suffer. But this bike was turning in sharp and tracking so well. Impressed by the ride, I immediately approached BIGROCK to ask them if we could stock their frames on our site. We’ve since purchased 2 more frames as staff bikes, and they’re as impressive as the first. For the price… it’s really hard to find anything to complain about. (Although having BIGROCK plastered on your down tube is probably one thing to complain about…)

I was looking for a successor of my 2016 Émonda sl6 with all modern features as disc brakes, T47 bottom bracket, 30mm tire clearance and fully integrated cables. As I ride with maximum saddle setback now, a universal round seatpost means much more options if I have to increase the setback.
As I like the handling of my old Émonda I was looking for a similar geometry. It turned out my size 52 Émonda is similar to a size 54 Sohtea.
It took about four weeks between ordering and delivery. As it’s my first bike build I can’t compare, however I didn’t ran into any problems. Bottombracket inserts are inline and machined to the right size, same for brake caliper mounting points. Seatpost and handlebar fit was also spot on. The optional integrated handlebar is well built and allows for full cable integration. It comes with lots of parts. It would have been even better if it was just black without ‘skyline’ on the front and a stripe at the back.
I installed a 105 di2 groupset and 1450 gram wheels and came to 7.7 kg including pedals.
The frame is a bit stiffer than the Émonda and rides very well, with 4.5 bar in the 30mm tires the comfort is also great.
I can recommend the Bigrock Sohtea if you are looking for an affordable, chinese frame without the cons it sometimes comes with.

I was looking for a lighter bike to replace my Winspace T1500D , and I was amazed by the simplicity of the Bigrock Sohtea Lightweight in size M. I build up the bike with Sram Rival etap axs and Elitewheels Edge 45mm, with Michelin Powercup 25mm tyres and TPU inner tubes and Deda Carbon handlebar/stem combo. It surprised me the total weight to be 6.8KG with computer mount and bottlecage. I just completed the shakedown with now over 170km of riding on varied terrain. I am very happy with the quick and responsiveness and good handling, far superior to the majority of brands I raced in the past. It is not as quick on the flat as a pure aero bike but it holds its own! Considering the low pricetag and great quality of the frame I say it is a must have. I can thoroughly recommend it!
